The Teen Titans are an organization of young vigilantes banded together to fight crime. Beginning as a group of sidekicks looking to distinguish themselves from their mentors, they served as a Junior Division of superhero teams consisting of adult heroes, such as the Justice Society and Justice League, and they would go on to expand into a worldwide establishment. As the years went on, many of the older members, due to their age, would drop the "Teen" portion of their name when referring to themselves, opting to go by the Titans. They have also used names such as New Teen Titans and New Titans, to refer to members of the Teen Titans who joined later.

There have also been ancillary teams, such as Titans East, Titans West, Titans North, Titans South, Titans Los Angeles, Team Titans, Young Justice League, and Young Justice League Dark. Many of the past Teen Titans would work in these groups as leaders, teachers, and supporting team members. There have also been villainous groupings of Titans, such as Deathstroke's Titans, Titans Villains for Hire, and Terror Titans.

The group known as the Teen Titans was created by Bob Haney and Bruno Premiani, first appearing in The Brave and the Bold #54 (1964).
