Olba Frost (オルバ・フロスト?) alongside his older fraternal twin brother Shagia Frost are the main antagonists from the After War Gundam X anime.
Personality & Character[]
Olba is the more reckless of the Frost brothers, often requiring his older brother to reign him in. He is competitive and does not like losing to the Freeden crew, often having to be reminded not to prioritise defeating the Freeden over completing the Frost brothers mission. Due to his past and being branded a failure, he resents the world and seeks to create a war which would allow Olba and his brother to place themselves at the top.
Skills & Abilities[]
Though his Newtype abilities are weak, he has the power to communicate telepathically with his brother over long distances. He is a skilled mobile suit pilot who is capable of overwhelming powerful enemies such as Witz Sou and Roybea Loy, and possesses great teamwork with his brother.
History[]
Background[]
The younger of the Frost brothers. He and his twin brother, Shagia Frost, work together in the dark. He and Shagia are able to communicate with each other through the Twins Synchronization regardless of distance, but because the Newtype-use Flash System was not sensitive to their communication, they were classified as "Category F". This resulted in the brothers hating the world for not recognizing their power.[1]
Encounter with the Freeden[]
In accordance with Shagia's plan to retrieve Tiffa Adill for the Alternative Company, Olba poses as a freelance mobile suit pilot and pretends to be fleeing from enemies in order to get the Freeden to rescue him. After they fall for his trap, he offers to join the crew in return for repairing his Gundam Ashtaron. He uses the opportunity to scout out the ship and inject a drug into an unconscious Tiffa,[2] worsening her condition. He waits for the Freeden to get closer to the Alternative Company facilities before kidnapping her, fleeing from the ship and reuniting with Shagia.[3] He takes Tiffa to the facility and hands her over, then returns to the battlefield and joins Shagia in his fight against Garrod Ran. After Olba returns, they quickly overpower Garrod but are pushed back when Witz and Roybea join the battle with their own Gundam mobile suits.[4]
The brothers try to convince Garrod to return to the Freeden
The Frost brothers later rescue Witz as he is trapped by Zakott's forces. He thanks them (unaware of who they are) but they laugh at him, saying they have not spared him. They soon learn that Garrod and the Gundam X (GX) are nearby. They arrive just in time to help Garrod from being robbed in an alleyway. Olba introduces Shagia to Garrod, and Shagia requests that they talk. They go for tea and learn that Garrod left the Freeden and no longer wants to pilot the GX. They try to convince him to go back with his Freeden so that they can destroy them all together and avenge their loss, and threaten to attack the Freeden when he refuses. They quickly learn that other Vultures already beat them to it and head to their own Gundams in order to join the battle against the Freeden.[5] They face off against Witz and Roybea while Ennil El goes after the Freeden and later Garrod. Witz and Roybea soon flee with the Freeden, and although disappointed at being told to retreat by Shagia, he complies. They withdraw before they are caught up in the explosion and the brothers watch on as the Freeden leaves, deciding to treat them as their archenemies going forward.[6]
Fort Severn[]
The Frost brothers report back to Aimzat Kartal when he meets them personally to oversee their resupply and it is revealed that they are actually soldiers of the New United Nations Earth (New UNE) which is in the process of being formed. It is also revealed that they were actually ordered to go after the Freeden by the New UNE, and they decided to let them run free and gather more Newtypes so that they could capture them all at once. Worried that they are gaining too much power because of their Gundam units, the pair decide to destroy their mobile suits. They launch an attack and face Witz and Roybea, with Olba noticing that they have made cold weather modifications. They overwhelm Witz and Roybea, but Garrod arrives to back them up and the brothers are surprised to see that the GX has been modified.[7]
Taken off-guard, Shagia decides to retreat, but Olga's pride gets the better of him and he returns to the battle. Garrod fires his Harmonica Cannon at Olba, taking him unaware, but Shagia covers for Olba and is injured in the process. Olba retreats with the injured Shagia[8] and has him treated on their plane. He decides to get vengeance on the Freeden and returns to attack them, despite knowing that Shagia would not approve. He fights against Witz and Roybea, but Shagia communicates with him using his Newtype powers and tells him to return after seeing the Bertigo, which belonged to the Space Revolutionary Army (SRA).[9] The brothers watch the battle between the Freeden crew and the Patulia and decide not to go after Carris Nautilus as he isn't a real Newtype.[10]
Zonder Epta[]
Olba is first seen capturing Marcus Guy, an Orc captain, and makes him work under him for a salvaging mission. He sits with the crew in the Polypeimos as it submerges underwater, and they uncover the body of Lucille Liliant. He is alerted about the presence of the Freeden and agrees with Marcus about attacking them. During the battle, Olba ambushes Garrod and binds him with the Ashtaron's Atomic Scissors. He comes very close to finishing both Garrod and the Freeden but is stopped by Lucille's ability.[11] Garrod uses the chance to damage the Polypeimos, causing them to retreat, but Olba prevents him from finishing the job and continues their battle until he is called back by Shagia (who is on the surface). He heads over to rendezvous with Shagia and Aimzat's troops alongside the Polypeimos and reaches him just as the Freeden catches up. The brothers fight Jamil and the others alongside their numerous troops from the New UNE, but retreat on Aimzat's orders after Jamil unleashes the GX-Bits. Olba makes sure to kill the Orcs before he leaves.[12]
The brothers remain on Zonder Epta where they work under Aimzat and join him as he receives Katokk Alzamille. As Katokk infiltrates the Freeden with his crew, the brothers launch an attack on the Freeden but retreat when they see that their plan has failed. Shagia kills the officer who tries to stop him from retreating while Olba kills the witnesses.[13]
While out at sea, Ennil ends up on Zonder Epta, thinking it was a deserted island. She accidentally sees the Double X Gundam and the Frost brothers chase her down. Shagia destroys her Esperasa but is unable to confirm her death because of the untimely arrival of Garrod and Witz. They retreat and return to the island, informing Aimzat that the Freeden is nearby and preparing Zonder Epta's defences for their attack. They take part in the attack against the Freeden and watch them surrender after being drawn into the Double X's firing range.[14]
Olba trips Garrod after capturing him
After the crew is captured, Olba uses the opportunity to hurt Garrod a little.[15] The brothers learn about the crews escape plan and figure out that Aimzat wants them to go ahead with it so that he has a pretext to kill them, and that he wants to take the Newtypes directly to the Newtype lab without going through the committee. They board his ship and leave Zonder Epta as the prisoners make their escape, fending off Garrod and Katokk as they attempt to board the ship.[16] While the prisoners continue their escape, the brothers order the New UNE soldiers to pull out from Zonder Epta 'on Aimzat's orders' which makes their escape easier. They also call in the main army from HQ and betray Aimzat after Garrod steals the Double X, telling him that they will have revenge for being treated as failures and that they will climb up to the next stage using him as a stepping stone. They kill him and return to General Staff HQ, which is who they actually answer to.[17]
South Asia Front[]
The brothers follow the Freeden to South Asia after the events on Zonder Epta. When the Freeden joins the countries of Estard, Gastar and Nothernbell as they launch an attack on the New UNE, they join the battle. They face Garrod but are overpowered by the Double X, and retreat after he uses the Satellite System. They are surprised by how formidable the Double X is, and decide to put their next plan in motion.[18] They gather a trio of Newtypes and send them out one by one against the Double X. Demar Griffe is chosen first based on a card draw, and they join him in the assault on Northernbell. Olba holds off Witz in his new Gundam Airmaster Burst so that Demar can fight Garrod 1v1 in his Correl. Demar dies in battle before he can awaken his Newtype abilities, so the brothers return to the base.[19]
The brothers watch as Duett Langraph, the next Newtype, slaughters his fellow soldiers. After the Double X is sighted, they send him into battle and watch as he is also killed.[20] They then send Milra Draid, the final Newtype into battle and once again leave after their Newtype is killed.[21] After the trio are wiped out, they are sent their fourth Newtype from the Newtype Testing Lab. They join Abel Bauer in battle against the Double X and Airmaster Burst, but withdraw (pretending to have electrical system issues) and leave him to fend for himself. When Abel awakens his abilities and starts using the Bit Rasvehts along with his main Rasveht unit, they congratulate him. After Abel retreats, they kill him. Having eliminated all the Newtypes from the military, they set their sights on their next target: the Newtype Testing Lab.[22]
Taking revenge on the NTL
The brothers go their separate ways in order to enact their plan. Olba meets with his superiors in the New UNE and informs them that Karon Ratto and the people of the Newtype Labs intend to ally with the Freedeen and create their own nation. He tells them that they intend to invite the Freeden in and the military assemble an army to attack, unaware that Shagia has secretly convinces Karon to invite the Freeden in so that the military can trap them. Once she invites the Freeden in and the New UNE attack them, the brothers are given full authorisation to destroy the labs. They head inside without any resistance before revealing their plan to a shocked Karon, proclaiming their desire for revenge after being classified as failures and killing her. They then destroy the labs. They then join the battle against the Freeden and Olba faces Witz.[1]Although they have the Freeden on the ropes, they are forced to withdraw as the New UNE declares a state of emergency. They are also present during the attack against the Eighth Base.[23]
8th Space War[]
The Frost brothers lead a unit of New UNE soldiers to space in order to combat the Space Revolutionary Army (SRA) and their Colony Laser. They find that Garrod has already destroyed the laser and confront him before he can return to the Earth. Olba captures the G-Falcon and threatens to crush Pala Sys, so Garrod surrenders. Shagia captures him with his new Gundam Virsago Chest Break and the trio are taken back to Earth. They seperate Garrod and Tiffa from Pala, then take them to Fixx Bloodman. They bring Garrod in for questioning and comply when Fixx tells them to bring Tiffa in. Although they are aware that Tiffa could read his mind, they keep quiet as they are also curious about Fixx's real intentions. They listen as Tiffa mentions D.O.M.E. and Fixx reveals his true thoughts about Newtypes.[24]
Olba warns Garrod
They later tell Fixx that the rest of the committee is seeking a peaceful solution but goad him into continue his pursuit of war, telling him that the world needs him as a leader.[24] After learning that Garrod and the others have escaped, they pursue them. They corner Garrod, but when the old Freeden crew arrives to back him up, Shagia decides to retreat. Olba complies, but not before he clashes with Garrod one last time and warns him that when war breaks out, it will have meant that the brothers were victorious. After their failure, they report back to Fixx and resume their previous discussion. They admit that they killed Aimzat and many others in order to gain Fixx's trust and have him speak candidly in turn, then agree with his ideals after he reveals them. In this way, they goad him into pursuing war. Fixx is ultimately unable to convince the council, so the brothers take matters into their own hands and kill the opposition all at once when they try to leave by plane. They tell Fixx that they were killed by the SRA, and though Fixx figures the truth out instantly, he plays along and wages war.[25] As the SRA begins to prepare for war in retaliation and Fixx steels his resolve, the brothers rejoice at everything going according to plan, but also prepare to deal with D.O.M.E.[26]
They fight on the front lines against the SRA, finding the enemy Crouda to be nothing special. They eventually come across Lancerow Dawell, recognising him as a skilled pilot. They face him in battle and overwhelm him, but their battle is interrupted when they notice the Satellite System is active and that the Double X and the Freeden II have entered the fray. They withdraw along with all other combatants, not wanting to be caught by the beam. When the Freeden II crew head for the moon, they join the rest of the army as they attempt to stop them. They are questioned about their intentions by Garrod and they reveal their goals to him. They overwhelm him in battle and almost kill him, but Lancerow's intervention causes them to fail. Garrod leaves for the moon while Shagia and Olba are forced to fight Lancerow and Jamil.[27] D.O.M.E. finally intervenes in the battle and uses the G-Bit D.O.M.E units to restrain them and bring them to the moon. They destroy the units and stay behind, despite all the other key figures in the war heading to the moon. They break the ceasefire and head to the moon, inciting the SRA to retaliate. The New UNE then fight back and the war carries on even without the leaders of the two armies. They send a team to breach the moon and hijack the Satellite System.[27]
Six months after the war
After they gain access, they dock their mobile suits together and charge up the Satellite Cannon so they can use it against the conflicting armies. When they notice Fixx and Seidel Rasso leaving the moon in their ships, they change their minds and use it to kill both leaders of the armies. Garrod and the others confront them, and as they charge up the Satellite System, Garrod also activates it and overwrites their control. They fire their incomplete cannon at Garrod's and they clash, causing a massive blast. Their ultimate fate is left unknown, but they are seen alive at the end with Garrod and Tiffa.[28]
