Basically my list of must-watch shows. (If one season is here, it means the whole show btw. Except for FLCL (sadge)) I honestly just made this for fun cause I wanted to go more in depth on some of my favorites (because conveying my thoughts through a score feels inaccurate sometimes) and include shows past the 10 favorites that MAL limits you to.
Clannad: After Story
TV, 2008, 24 eps Me:- Author:10
Clannad After Story is a masterpiece in every definition of the word. It is easily the best and most important part of the whole series. However, it won't leave the full impact if you only watch this and not the first season. But once it starts to leave that impact, it becomes one of the greatest stories ever told and absolutely crushes your soul. This had me slightly tearing up some on episodes and absolutely bawling during others. I could go on forever, but I'm trying to keep these descriptions short so: watch the first season, watch this, and gain a new outlook on life.
Kaguya-sama wa Kokurasetai: Tensai-tachi no Renai Zunousen
TV, 2019, 12 eps Me:- Author:10
Might be my favorite work of fiction. Hilarious comedy, some of if not the best character writing I've ever seen, and just a very good romance. I'd say the character writing is what really makes this, though. Aka Akasaka mastered that art comedically and narratively, allowing for some of the funniest and most meaningful stories I've ever seen. Best anime of all time in my opinion.
Seishun Buta Yarou wa Bunny Girl Senpai no Yume wo Minai
TV, 2018, 13 eps Me:- Author:10
Even though this series consists of very far-fetched and fictious plots, it is one of the realest things I've seen. Another one with great characters and unmatched writing. The first movie had bawling on every watch, lowkey life changing.

K-On!!

K-ON! Season 2

K-On!!
TV, 2010, 26 eps Me:- Author:10
The best way I can describe this show is that it is just fun. Fun characters, fun plots, and fun music. Despite the fact that this isn't my favorite anime, I've never been more upset to finish a show, even when rewatching it. Sakura-sou no Pet na Kanojo

The Pet Girl of Sakurasou

Sakura-sou no Pet na Kanojo
TV, 2012, 24 eps Me:- Author:10
I'm a little biased because this is the first anime I ever watched but it still holds up after going back to it years later. Does a great job of exploring the feelings and motivations each character has behind their pursuits as well as showcasing the bonds they have with each other.

Saiki Kusuo no Ψ-nan

The Disastrous Life of Saiki K.

Saiki Kusuo no Ψ-nan
TV, 2016, 120 eps Me:- Author:9
One of anime's finest comedies. I really like the structure of one episode containing a bunch of mini episodes. That, the funny characters, and the great humor make this so addictive and rewatchable.

Kono Subarashii Sekai ni Shukufuku wo!

KonoSuba: God's Blessing on This Wonderful World!

Kono Subarashii Sekai ni Shukufuku wo!
TV, 2016, 10 eps Me:- Author:9
Lowkey just a sitcom in disguise. Love how this is able to be funny beyond an overdone "haha isekai parody" like it actually understand how to write humor. Though I like this mainly for the comedy elements, it's one of the few isekai that actually manages to make the fantasy setting really interesting and not boring/ repetitive.

Nichijou

Nichijou - My Ordinary Life

Nichijou
TV, 2011, 26 eps Me:- Author:9
While I mainly like this so much because it's very funny, it also does a great job of just being fun like K-On. the art of animation is at its best in this show, like I love the art style and KyoAni occasionally decides to animate the most fluid and beautiful scenes you'll ever see just for a quick laugh. Peak silliness and a creative vibe.
[Oshi no Ko]
TV, 2023, 11 eps Me:- Author:8
Everything from the characters, drama, suspense, and intriguing delve into the entertainment industry makes it hard to not get invested in this.
Horimiya
TV, 2021, 13 eps Me:- Author:8
I liked the manga more, but if you want a good romance with a great cast, you can't go wrong with this one. (Or maybe you can some people don't like this but I think it's fire.) Really enjoyed the chemistry of the characters in this, it really made for a fun watch/read
Bocchi the Rock!
TV, 2022, 12 eps Me:- Author:8
Another silly comedy about girls playing in a band, but this time not as good. But even then, its still goated; Bocchi is literally me, there are some great uses of animation, and Kessoku Band makes an absolute banger of a soundtrack. While I love the comedy aspects of this, what I really enjoy are the developments that get introduced later on past what season 1 covers.
Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann
TV, 2007, 27 eps Me:- Author:9
While I wasn't huge on it in the first few episodes, the more I watched this the more I liked it. An absolute banger that only got better as it went on. Even when you'd think it makes a bad move or starts to lose the plot, it locks in does nothing but cook. It is hype in its rawest form delivered by writing that lives up it to that hype. ROW ROW FIGHT THE POWA 🗣️ 🔥 ‼️
ReLIFE
TV, 2016, 13 eps Me:- Author:8
Watching the characters navigate through their struggles with each other is maybe the reason this is so good? Idrk why I like this one so much either tbh but its a banger trust, definitely worth watching.

Sousou no Frieren

Frieren: Beyond Journey's End

Sousou no Frieren
TV, 2023, 28 eps Me:- Author:9
So many anime with a fantasy setting just turn out to be boring and repetitive, but Frieren doesn't do that. Everything Frieren does, it does great. Great characters, storytelling, themes, and fights (which is something this show doesn't even need but does incredibly). Never knew watching other people do side quests could be so entertaining.

JoJo no Kimyou na Bouken (TV)

JoJo's Bizarre Adventure (2012)

JoJo no Kimyou na Bouken (TV)
TV, 2012, 26 eps Me:- Author:7
While this is by far the longest thing on this list, it is well worth the watch. Each part feels like a different show, but they still keep what makes JoJo so good.

Shinseiki Evangelion

Neon Genesis Evangelion

Shinseiki Evangelion
TV, 1995, 26 eps Me:- Author:8
Ok imma be real I don't really know how to describe what I like about this one. It's probably the characters, maybe something like the philosophy behind them and their motives and how they all feel unique and real because of their different struggles maybe? But like it's Eva, one of the most influential and revered animes of all time for its ambitious and artistic storytelling, so I really don't need to explain why it's here (thankfully so because I have no idea how to talk about this)

Chuunibyou demo Koi ga Shitai!

Love, Chunibyo & Other Delusions!

Chuunibyou demo Koi ga Shitai!
TV, 2012, 12 eps Me:- Author:8
I love how this show used Chunibyo as more than just a silly gimmick and instead made it an integral part of the show that tells us more about the characters while also providing thematic depth at times. That being said, this is also very silly and I love the whimsical vibe this show has.
Yahari Ore no Seishun Love Comedy wa Machigatteiru.
TV, 2013, 13 eps Me:- Author:7
So many romance anime these days feel so lifeless and plain, even if they are good. So many of them lack what makes romance anime great, which can be found in this My Teen Romantic Comedy SNAFU. Good drama (or any drama at that point), interesting characters with some depth to them, and progress in relationships.

Kimi no Koto ga Daidaidaidaidaisuki na 100-nin no Kanojo

The 100 Girlfriends Who Really, Really, Really, Really, Really Love You

Kimi no Koto ga Daidaidaidaidaisuki na 100-nin no Kanojo
TV, 2023, 12 eps Me:- Author:8
This looks like it would suck; its down bad and just has an awful premise— but I would be lying if I said this isn't one of the best written and funnest comedies I've seen. The premise isn't just a girlfriend count: each girl feels like a necessary inclusion that's an incredible over the top satire of a specific character archetype that also opens the door to tons of fun scenarios. These weird scenarios are what really allows the surprisingly great comedic chemistry of the staggeringly big main cast to really shine. The manga is a little better tho IMO
FLCL
OVA, 2000, 6 eps Me:- Author:8
This is a super cool show with great action, animation, and vibes, but just the shows writing somehow manages to stand out just as much. It's also crazy just how much they were able to pack in only six episodes, and the soundtrack by the Pillows is obviously one of the best out there.
Cowboy Bebop
TV, 1998, 26 eps Me:- Author:8
Each 20 minute episode is able to achieve what most 2 hour movies can't.
Mob Psycho 100
TV, 2016, 12 eps Me:- Author:6
While at first glance this an action show about psychic powers, the biggest focus is on the characters. Even though the cast is full of psychics, con men, and spirits, it's still a cast full of characters that are ultimately just people. The first season may have been a little rough at times, but I'm very glad I stuck with this.
City The Animation
TV, 2025, 13 eps Me:- Author:8
Does not hit as hard as Nichijou, but it has the same author and it's animated by KyoAni so you know it's heat. Absolutely incredible animation and just a fun breath of fresh air and creative passion
Lucky☆Star
TV, 2007, 24 eps Me:- Author:8
"What's this?"
"Your anime, sir."
"No, that can't be right; There's no plot."
"You just watch the cute girls do the cute things."
Golden Time
TV, 2013, 24 eps Me:- Author:8
Really good romance anime that does a great job of exploring the relationship between the two protags instead of dragging out a "will they won't they" tension

Danshi Koukousei no Nichijou

Daily Lives of High School Boys

Danshi Koukousei no Nichijou
TV, 2012, 12 eps Me:- Author:8
There were a lot of times where I thought this show was off of its game but still very funny at times and as I'm sure you can tell I love shows like this
Samurai Champloo
TV, 2004, 26 eps Me:- Author:8
This is really good but got too mature for my tastes at times. I loved the soundtrack, episodic nature that's in the same vein as Cowboy Bebop, group dynamic, and when Mugen learns to read, but I was not a fan of how mature this gets. Worth a watch, but proceed with caution.
