Jean-Louis Gasset (9 December 1953 – 26 December 2025) was a French footballer and manager. As a footballer, he played as a midfielder, spending ten years playing for his hometown club Montpellier.[1]
As a manager, he coached Montpellier (where he won the 1999 UEFA Intertoto Cup),[2] Caen, Istres,[3] Saint-Étienne,[4] Bordeaux,[5] the Ivory Coast,[6] and Marseille.[7] He also worked as an assistant manager under Luis Fernández at Paris Saint-Germain and Espanyol,[8] and under Laurent Blanc at Bordeaux, France and Paris Saint-Germain.[9]
While manager of the Ivory Coast, he managed the team at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations. He resigned from the job on 24 January 2024, after a poor performance in the group stages, and was replaced by Emerse Faé, who helped the Ivory Coast win the tournament.[10]
Gasset died on 26 December 2025, at the age of 72.[11]
