ChatGPT just picked up your UPI pin, and India is watching. Imagine: you ask a chatbot, “Order my usual groceries,” and instead of redirecting you to an app, it says: “Done. Payment processed. On its way.” That’s no sci-fi. That’s the new pilot from National Payments Corporation of India (National Payments Corporation Of India (NPCI)), Razorpay and OpenAI turning ChatGPT into a full-blown shopping agent. Reuters+2 Entrepreneur+2 Here’s how it works: You tell ChatGPT: “Buy ingredients for a Thai-style curry from bigbasket.” The AI scans the catalogue, shows options, and you tap “Yes”. It completes the order using UPI (via NPCI’s network + Razorpay’s stack) without you leaving the chat. mint And yes, your safety, tracking & cancellation are in the fine print. You remain in control. Gadgets 360 Why this matters: The UPI network in India already processes 20 billion+ transactions monthly. This is the new layer. Reuters+1 “Agentic payments” = AI, with your pre-authorisation, buying on your behalf. Not just clicks, but conversations. Entrepreneur Banking partners like Axis Bank & Airtel Payments Bank are already in. Business Standard+1 But here’s where the alarm bells ring for CXOs, fintech leaders, and brand strategists: Are you ready for a world where discovery + payment = one chat, no app switch? How will your brand show up inside a conversational agent instead of a screen of icons? What happens when control shifts: you consent once, and the agent acts multiple times? And yes, sharing payment/bank details with AI means zero friction but max trust required. So, let’s ask the tough question: Will you hand over your wallet to a chatbot or stay glued to multi-app chaos? Bold ask to the innovators: If you’re working on AI payments, conversational commerce, or CX disruption, let’s talk. Because this pilot isn’t just a feature; it’s a frontier. #AI #ConversationalCommerce #Fintech #UPI #AgenticPayments #ChatGPT #Razorpay #NPCI #OpenAI #CustomerExperience #Innovation #DigitalPayments #CXStrategy #PilotProject #NextGenCX #Linkedinreads

Yesterday Adyen launched Adyen Agentic, a suite of modular APIs that enables businesses to sell through conversational AI platforms without rebuilding their commerce systems for each new channel. 🔍 𝗨𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗛𝗼𝗼𝗱... ...their agentic product stack includes: 👉🏽 𝘼𝙜𝙚𝙣𝙩𝙞𝙘 𝙁𝙚𝙚𝙙: A structured product and inventory layer that distributes real time catalog, pricing, and availability data across conversational commerce environments. i.e. the plug and play tool for merchants which means businesses can just connect their inventory and enable product discovery for customers and switch it one without lengthy dev time 👉🏽 𝘼𝙜𝙚𝙣𝙩𝙞𝙘 𝘾𝙖𝙧𝙩: An orchestration layer that connects merchants’ existing checkout, tax, fulfillment, and order management systems to conversational commerce platforms. i.e. the layer that lets AI agents create and manage purchases using a merchant's existing checkout and order systems. 👉🏽 𝘼𝙜𝙚𝙣𝙩𝙞𝙘 𝙋𝙖𝙮𝙢𝙚𝙣𝙩𝙨: A payments and fraud layer for agent led transactions, enabling authentication, token portability, merchant of record preservation, and risk management across evolving protocols. i.e. the layer that lets AI agents securely pay for purchases on behalf of customers across the ever growing Agent Payment Protocols Feed = Discovery Cart = Commerce orchestration Payments = Transaction execution ___________________ Whilst this IS big news, it's not a huge surprise to me because I telegraphed this direction almost a year ago in my piece on Agentic Commerce, complete with a trademark diagram. 🔗 Read the full edition here: https://lnkd.in/e4CMzGb2 PSPs have a unique right to win in the Agentic Commerce Era as they have the three key characteristics (IMHO) required for any successful agentic commerce play: 🪪 Identity & Trust – PSPs can verify who a customer is and act on trusted, authenticated identity signals. 📊 Transaction Intelligence – PSPs possess rich historical and real-time spending data that enables highly personalised agent decision-making. 💳 Payments Execution – PSPs own the tokenization, authorisation, and payment infrastructure that allows agents to securely complete transactions on behalf of customers. Here's what I said in the article, Jun 13, 2025: "...𝘐 𝘣𝘦𝘭𝘪𝘦𝘷𝘦 𝘪𝘵’𝘭𝘭 𝘮𝘢𝘪𝘯𝘭𝘺 𝘣𝘦 𝘱𝘢𝘺𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵 𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘤𝘦𝘴𝘴𝘰𝘳𝘴 𝘭𝘪𝘬𝘦 𝘚𝘵𝘳𝘪𝘱𝘦, 𝘗𝘢𝘺𝘗𝘢𝘭, 𝘈𝘥𝘺𝘦𝘯 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘊𝘩𝘦𝘤𝘬𝘰𝘶𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵’𝘭𝘭 𝘭𝘦𝘢𝘥 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘤𝘩𝘢𝘳𝘨𝘦 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩 𝘈𝘨𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘪𝘤 𝘊𝘰𝘮𝘮𝘦𝘳𝘤𝘦 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘪𝘳 𝘢𝘤𝘤𝘦𝘴𝘴 𝘵𝘰 𝘤𝘶𝘴𝘵𝘰𝘮𝘦𝘳 𝘪𝘥𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘪𝘵𝘪𝘦𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘳𝘰𝘶𝘨𝘩 𝘰𝘯𝘦-𝘤𝘭𝘪𝘤𝘬 𝘤𝘩𝘦𝘤𝘬𝘰𝘶𝘵 𝘧𝘶𝘯𝘤𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘢𝘭𝘪𝘵𝘺, 𝘱𝘢𝘺𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵 𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘤𝘦𝘴𝘴𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘤𝘢𝘱𝘢𝘣𝘪𝘭𝘪𝘵𝘺, 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘢𝘤𝘤𝘦𝘴𝘴 𝘵𝘰 𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘱𝘳𝘪𝘴𝘦 𝘥𝘢𝘵𝘢 𝘢𝘵 𝘴𝘤𝘢𝘭𝘦." I'm still bullish on the 3 characteristics and the above statement. This Adyen news just affirms it. Do you agree? And is distribution the 4th key factor?

Razorpay and National Payments Corporation Of India (NPCI) Introduce AI-Enabled UPI Payments for Food & Grocery Ordering In a significant step for India’s digital payments ecosystem, Razorpay has partnered with the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) to pilot AI-backed, fully automated conversational commerce powered by UPI. The initiative allows users to order food and groceries through a single AI-driven chat interface - where discovery, selection, and payment happen seamlessly within one conversation. By combining advanced AI models with India’s robust UPI infrastructure, the pilot enables smooth transactions with features like pre-set payment approvals under defined limits. This reduces repeated authentication steps while maintaining user control and security. The larger shift here is toward agent-driven commerce. AI is no longer just assisting users - it is executing intent end-to-end. From placing the order on partner platforms to completing the payment instantly. This signals the next evolution of digital commerce in India: Conversational AI + Real-time payments + Embedded execution. If scaled successfully, this could redefine how consumers interact with commerce - moving from app-switching to intent-based transactions. As AI becomes embedded into everyday financial flows, the question is no longer if conversational payments will grow - but how quickly they will become the norm. Could this reshape how India shops and pays? #GyanInfinet #Razorpay #NPCI #UPI #ConversationalAI #AgenticCommerce #DigitalPayments

Google launches the Agent Payments Protocol (AP2) Google, in partnership with 60+ global leaders including Mastercard, American Express, PayPal, Coinbase, Adyen, dLocal and Revolut, has introduced AP2 – an open protocol that enables secure, interoperable, AI-driven payments across cards, bank transfers, and even crypto. ✅️ AP2 addresses the core challenges of authorization, authenticity, and accountability in agent-led transactions using cryptographically signed Mandates that verifiably link user intent to every purchase. ❎️ E-commerce use cases powered by AP2: 🟢 Conversational shopping: Imagine asking an AI assistant to “order me a pair of running shoes under $100” — the agent can not only search but also complete the checkout using AP2, regardless of which payment method you use. 🟢 Faster checkout: Retailers can reduce cart abandonment by enabling AI-powered one-click checkouts across cards, wallets, or BNPL providers without extra integrations. 🟢 Cross-platform consistency: Whether shopping via voice, chatbots, or marketplaces, the payment flow stays seamless, consistent, and secure. 🟢 Global scalability: For merchants expanding internationally, AP2 could lower the cost of adding new payment methods and ensure smooth transactions across borders. As AI agents become more embedded in everyday life, AP2 could be the missing link that enables frictionless transactions in e-commerce and beyond. More details here 👇 : https://lnkd.in/d3xB7Nzk

We just built something that didn't exist six months ago. An AI agent that calls your customer, recovers the abandoned cart, handles every objection, and collects the payment. On the same call. No human. No handoff. No delay. This is what we've been working on with Razorpay and I want to explain why this is a bigger deal than it sounds. Right now, every e-commerce brand in India has the same broken workflow. Customer abandons cart. Brand fires an email. Customer ignores it. Brand fires an SMS. Customer ignores it. Brand fires a retargeting ad and pays for the same customer twice. Meanwhile the actual reason they left, a question about delivery, a doubt about returns, a moment of hesitation that a single conversation could have resolved, never gets addressed. Because there was nobody there to have the conversation. That's the gap we've been obsessing over. Not the marketing funnel. Not the checkout page. The moment after intent is established and before the payment goes through. That window 20 minutes, maybe 30, where a customer is still warm, still interested, still recoverable. We built a voice AI agent that lives in that window. It calls within minutes. It knows exactly what was in the cart. It speaks the customer's language. It answers the question that caused the drop. And when the customer says yes, it generates a Razorpay payment link, sends it in real time, and confirms the transaction before the call ends. From abandoned cart to paid order. One conversation. Zero humans required. And it doesn't stop there. COD order placed? Agent calls immediately, confirms address, converts to prepaid with an incentive. Payment overdue? Agent follows up, sends the link, collects on the call. Post-purchase upsell? Agent calls after delivery, recommends the next product, closes the reorder. The entire commerce journey, conversation, decision, payment, confirmation handled by one agent, end to end. What this actually means for a D2C brand running at scale: Every abandoned cart gets a real conversation within 20 minutes. Every COD order gets confirmed before it ships. Every collection followup happens automatically. Every upsell opportunity gets acted on. Not when a human is available. Every time. Immediately. At any volume. We've spent months on this because we believed one thing, the future of commerce isn't a better checkout page. It's an agent that closes the sale the way your best salesperson would, by actually talking to the customer. superU AI + Razorpay is that agent. If you're running a D2C brand and recovery, conversion, or collections, this was built for you.

🚀 Breaking Ground in Conversational Commerce 🚀 I’m thrilled to see a bold new step toward AI-native payments: Razorpay, NPCI, and OpenAI have teamed up to pilot Agentic Payments within ChatGPT — enabling users in India to browse, select, and pay — all via conversation. Here’s why this matters: 🔹 Seamless Experience No more switching apps or copying & pasting links. Ask ChatGPT to “order my weekly groceries” — and that’s all you need to say. The AI handles discovery and checkout. 🔐 Smart Authorization, Secure by Design Thanks to UPI innovations like Reserve Pay and UPI Circle, users can grant bounded permission to an AI agent to transact autonomously within limits. You remain in control. 🏦 Strong Institutional Backbone This initiative merges three powerful capabilities: • NPCI’s robust UPI infrastructure • Razorpay’s payments stack and merchant integrations • OpenAI’s conversational intelligence 🤖 From Discovery to Autonomy This isn’t just chat-based shopping — it’s a shift toward AI agents doing the heavy lifting for you. The challenge now: ensuring transparency, trust, and user comfort. ⸻ ✨ What this signals for the future: • A world where dialog + payment = one unified experience • New frontiers for conversational commerce across sectors • Fresh conversations about AI, trust, and financial control If you’re in fintech, AI, payments, or customer experience — this is a moment to watch (and possibly build toward). #Fintech #AI #ConversationalCommerce #Payments #Innovation #DigitalTransformation #UPI #AgenticAI
